Demolition Man predicted the Future

I know, I know, just let me explain…

First off, spoiler alerts if you haven’t seen the movie. Also, if you haven’t seen it, your an awful person.

Demolition Man, much like Idiocracy, has predicted our future with an uncanny degree of accuracy. Let’s break down some of plot points:

In the future,

• Society is full of a bunch of wimpy pansies who can’t handle any sort of real violence
• A celebrity has been elected as President of the United States
• One major chain has a monopoly on all restaurants
• Physical sexual contact is not condoned
• Wesley Snipes is a criminal

So, lets discuss.

Society is full of a bunch of wimpy pansies who can’t handle violence

This one is pretty self explanatory at this point, I think. We currently live in a soft society. Not all of us, mind you, but a significant portion of the population breaks down in tears when the slightest thing doesn’t go their way. Just about any violent act in our society can paralyze it, even if they just hear about it on the news.

A celebrity has been elected President

Ok, I know Trump isn’t Schwarzenegger, and we didn’t have to amend the Constitution to get him elected, but a celebrity is now the President of the United States. There will be a Trump Presidential library. Stallone, if he was frozen in the 90’s and sent to the future, would be shocked.

One major chain has a monopoly on all restaurants

Think Amazon is gonna stop buying up food chains after Whole Foods? Think again! And whose to say Taco Bell doesn’t mount a counter offensive and buy out Amazon after they’ve purchased every other restaurant? Give it 10 years, you’ll be eating paste off plates in evening wear while listening to the Jolly Green Giant in the background.

Physical sexual contact is not condoned

Again, this one is slightly off, but it still fits. Just because we are having less sex because feminists think all sex is rape now instead of rampant STD’s is trivial. We’ll all be waving at each other from a respectable distance while fornicating in VR soon.

Wesley Snipes is a criminal

Tax Evasion. It’s a crime. Period. And he spent time in prison for it. Could have easily fallen into a bad crowd, learned some new crime methods, and is planning on dying his hair blonde. Starting a criminal empire that tears South Central LA apart is not far behind.

There you have it. Demolition Man predicted the future. It’s pretty much fact. How long until we have to bring our greatest hero’s back from the past to save us all?
